'Maizing Grace Grow A Row Project

The soybeans on Salem's 25 acre 'Maizing Grace field have been harvested! On October 14th, the Administrative Council approved the designation of our donation to two overseas growing projects - Gambia Gamhort and Cambodia South. UMCOR is the lead denomination for a sustainable agricultural project in Gambia which works with 80% women to achieve food security through crop diversification, introduction of high quality seeds, and intensified year round production. Cambodia South is a sustainable agricultural project with UMCOR as an implementing member which focuses on improved water access and control and training farmers on improved techniques with a system of rice intensification, vegetable growing, and fruit tree planting. For more information on these two projects, visit www.foodsresourcebank.org and click on overseas programs.

To date these donors are involved in Salem's growing project: Agril-Land Insurance Agency for federal crop insurance; Midwest Ag Services, Inc. for chemicals; Pioneer, a Dupont Company for seed beans; Robert Adkins & Sons for planting equipment & labor; and Thien Farm Management, Inc. for fertilizer, management & marketing. If your business would like to donate input costs, please contact Gary Thien at 328-3477. Thank you, donors!
